Back and Better Than Ever!

It's been more than a year (513 days to be exact) since I last posted. Where have I been? Did I end up abandoning this blog? To not have posted anything in more than a year, it may seem like so. However, I've been growing in my career considerably, as well as planning future content. I also have been spending more time with my family in Colombia thanks to a new remote job that gives me the flexibility to have a much better work life balance than my last job. I also had the opportunity to attend DEFCON, a hacker conference, as well as visit Europe for the first time, specifically the country of Serbia. More importantly, is that I finally made that long sought jump from IT to InfoSec that I was looking for. All of these events have contributed greatly to my growth, and they all happened so quickly. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I am forever grateful to everyone that has helped me in my career. It's important that I make it clear that even to those who did not give me a chance or took feedback personally when I gave it, I have learned that growth does not care about your past at all. All that matters in the end, is how much do you want to grow. That is it. I told myself that while I was searching for my next opportunity, I was going to continue blogging and contributing to my career and the InfoSec community. It was not consistent, but I tried even when I got rejected from numerous interviews, and even when I lost my grandmother. I came back even during times like those to this wonderful place where I could talk about something I love deeply and care about. That is where I have been. I don't know what the future has in store for me, but I do know for a fact that if you're a good person and a honest hard worker, the sky's the limit. Let your actions speak louder than your words, and be the change you wish to see in the world.

Staying True

If the plan doesn't work, change the plan but don't change the goal.

Be prepared that this blog will deliver several posts over the coming weeks. We will cover everything InfoSec related, so that if an audience member does not like one topic in InfoSec, they may still like x, y, or z. That is what we're aiming for here. As far as scheduling goes, I plan to create a new post every weekend. Some posts will be longer than others such as posts that require more preparation from investigation and fact checking. These kinds of posts will be spread more out and may not be delivered every weekend, but more like every 2 weeks. This is what I would like to commit to you. There will be a focus on quality over quantity. Furthermore as a Hispanic American, I do see there being an opportunity to create Spanish content for those Spanish speaking audience members. To finalize, we want to ensure that anybody can learn on how to keep themselves secure in the digital world. If you're interested even in the slightest bit on how to practice this, that to me is more than enough to motivate the both of us in teaching others on how to practice good cyber hygiene, and establish a culture of security that not only cares about making a difference, but wants to make it part of their day to day lives. So if you're new or already familiar here, welcome and welcome back! Let's all help each other by keeping ourselves informed, so we can remain as resilient as we can. Remember that security is a team sport! Additionally learning about security, and practicing it in your life depends ultimately on how motivated you are. This applies to everything else in life, but more in security for the fact of how threats are always evolving. Security measures taken before to deter threats may not work anymore against current threats. So it's important to have an open minded mindset, and be curious about everything. We must all help keep each other up to date on the latest in security. There are opportunities for even inexperienced users, where they will be able to greatly improve the security posture of their digital lives all with small effort. So there is definitely a place for everyone here! Continue to stay secure, and please let me know if there is anything specific you would like for me to look into or talk about. 🙂
